The Art Stops Here. Sort Of.

A frame has a peculiar job.

It has to be important enough to belong with the art—and disciplined enough to know it isn’t the art.

Frame of Mind had been negotiating that distinction since 1990, long before moving to Wynwood in 2019. Artists arrived with work. Collectors arrived with opinions. Designers arrived with measurements. Occasionally, everyone arrived with all three.

Guycorp’s task was to give those conversations a place worthy of them: part gallery, part working studio, and never so precious that creativity had to whisper.

David Hockney once looked at an ornate empty frame and said, “It seems such a shame. It’s such a beautiful frame.” He put a painting in it. Naturally.

That small instinct says something about Frame of Mind. Framing is not the administrative act that happens after the art is finished. Done properly, it is the final creative decision—the moment an object is given context, proportion and permission to command the wall.

Artist Olafur Eliasson put the paradox even better: “The breaking of the frame is the new frame.”

Which feels particularly appropriate in Wynwood, where art has never shown much respect for staying inside anything.

After more than four decades of designing environments, Guycorp understood that the answer wasn't to make an art gallery look more artistic.

It was to build a place where having a Frame of Mind became one.
