We Designed the Twenty-Five Feet in Between

At OIA, the interesting problem wasn’t simply the platform or the ground plane. It was the three-story gap between them. The masterplan turns that section into orientation: level boarding above, pedestrian decisions below, landscape rising through the void and landmarks tall enough to connect both worlds. Even the giraffes have a job. The result is less about decorating circulation than making movement obvious before anyone has to ask.
The OIA concept organizes an elevated Brightline station, passenger platforms, vertical circulation, landscape, public realm and connections to the larger airport campus into a legible masterplan. GUY approached the project simultaneously as architect, landscape designer, experiential designer and passenger—using hardscape, planting, sculpture, lighting and wayfinding to turn circulation into place. It is the kind of assignment our multidisciplinary practice was built for: the spaces between disciplines are often where the project becomes memorable.
