A shopping center and a theatre would seem to have very different jobs. At Akasya Mall & Theatre, Guycorp treated them as variations on the same one: knowing how to hold an audience.
That changed the question. The skylights were not simply openings in the roof. Glass was not simply enclosure. Structure, daylight and circulation became part of the choreography—revealing, concealing, directing and occasionally letting Istanbul perform the scene itself.
The engineering is sophisticated because it has to be. The experience is effortless because it should be.

Guy Tetrick’s contribution was to keep those two conditions from becoming confused. Technical complexity stayed backstage. What reached the visitor was clarity, movement and a certain theatrical inevitability.
The best retail spaces understand something theatres learned centuries ago: people may come for the program, but they remember how the room made the entrance.
