Built to Disappear. Permanent architecture gets decades to make its case. An event gets tonight.
For the launch of Cartier CARROT, Guycorp approached that limitation as a creative advantage. There would be no years for the experience to become familiar, no second season in which to correct the first, and no reason to design something anyone could comfortably ignore.
It had to arrive fully formed.
The project therefore lived in the territory between architecture, installation and performance—an environment created not simply to contain an event, but to become part of what happened there.
And then, like fragrance itself, it would disappear.
That may be the strange pleasure of special-event design. Months of thought, engineering, fabrication and rehearsal are invested in creating something whose success is measured partly by how vividly people remember it after it no longer exists.
Guycorp has spent four decades making permanent places.
Sometimes the greater luxury is knowing exactly when to leave.
Cartier CARROT was designed for one of those rare occasions when disappearing was part of the performance.
